I am Devin Byrnes, candidate for Councilor at Large. For the last 17 years, I have been the owner and operator of Destination Soups on Union Street. Running and managing a small business makes me uniquely suited to serve on the Council. I have used hard work, fiscal responsibility, creativity and team work to ensure my business thrived during some very challenging times.

One of my goals is to protect public spaces (libraries, parks and beaches). I also plan on being a strong advocate and ally for the arts, culture and community by facilitating public festivals, events and gatherings; these are enriching components of living in our city.

When elected to the City Council, I will prioritize small business growth to build the tax base and bolster local employment opportunities. These businesses not only boost our local economy but they create a vibrant culture and foster community as well.

Public safety is another big priority for me. I believe that youth outreach and education, after school programs and opportunities need to be explored and protected. People deserve to feel safe in their homes and on the city streets. Fully staffed and funded first responders are essential to the health and well being of all city residents. There are many challenges facing our city and I have always been a hard worker; I am ready to meet these challenges. New Bedford’s City Council needs engaged and reasonable leaders.
